I am Gena Hampton, a first grade teacher at McDermott Elementary. I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I have an Associate of Arts degree from Seward County Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University. In addition I have an ESL endorsement that enables me to work with children whose first language is something other than English.
Working with children is my passion! I have worked as a Sunday School teacher, Christian scout leader, daycare worker, preschool teacher and have taught first grade at McDermott since 1997.
I also help with the Good News Club that meets here on Tuesdays after school.
I believe in each child. It's my philosophy that all children deserve an opportunity to learn in a safe and loving environment. When your child is with me I treat them as I would my own children giving instruction and guidance as needed. My favorite thing is to see the light in their eyes when they understand a new concept.
Every day they teach ME new things!
